Clothing and Fabric Destruction

Our company, possessing all the necessary permits, collects clothes or fabrics and destroys them in a special shredder so that they CANNOT be sold or reused.

The destruction of clothing and fabrics is carried out for various reasons. Below are some indicative examples that may lead a company to destroy clothing and fabrics:

Accounting

The primary reason is purely practical/accounting and aims at reducing the value of inventory. Old clothes, fabrics, and general stock materials that appear in company warehouses increase the value of inventory, which in turn artificially inflates profits with materials that, in reality, have no value. Their destruction and proof that the clothes or fabrics no longer exist and cannot be resold (Certificate of Destruction) reduce revenue and reflect the true profitability of a company.

Marketing

Another equally important reason is based on marketing theories and is the protection of the companies’ “Brand Name” from potential “degradation” or “sales cannibalization”. When a company with a strong/expensive brand name starts selling cheaply to get rid of its stock, there is a high chance of losing its prestige and brand power. Additionally, sales cannibalization is a significant marketing concept, and when a company “cannibalizes,” it essentially competes against its own products. A substantial price drop or the introduction of a new product into an established product category can result in “cannibalization.” For example, when a company starts selling its old clothes at low prices, it is likely competing against itself and taking market share from its own products.

Security

Many companies with their own special attire featuring their logo or other distinctive identifiers often require and request destruction for security reasons. The reason is that without destruction, anyone with malicious intent could easily use these clothes to impersonate an employee of the respective company.
